I Hate Politics – 2026

Here we are, 2026, and I decided to look at some old blog posts from here to see what I had to say about politics. The post I’m going to reference is officially legal at 18 years old since it was from 2008, please read this post before clicking on the link to the old blog post! LINK for reference. Reading this, some of my views remain the same, but many have changed. My politics have definitely changed from Libertarian to leaning towards Progressive. At the time of the old post, I was 2 years into my marriage, not yet a homeowner, still working for a cable company, and this was 6 years before becoming a dad. But instead of focusing on what I said back then, I’m going to focus on what I would say today.

The problem with politics: one of the biggest problems I tend to face when it comes to the two main parties is that I’m stuck with having to choose the least worst person for the job. I’m a responsible adult, and I try to make the correct decisions when it comes to life, but that doesn’t mean I feel our lives should feel impossible due to something catastrophic happening, such as being laid off or dealing with sickness. I don’t feel it is the government’s responsibility to babysit or hold my hand throughout my life, but they should have tools and support in place if I need it so my family and I don’t suffer and can make our way back from catastrophe.

Tools and support are not handouts; they could be as simple as guardrails to prevent it from happening (such as regulation), but they could also be government provided healthcare that won’t leave us in financial ruin if a loved one or we get sick. Medical insurance shouldn’t be something to be profited from; it should be something to keep us healthy and help us when we are sick or get hurt. Once a corporation looks to make a profit, our lives are at stake, and for insurance companies, making a profit is more important than any life they could save. Millionaires and Billionaires are rich because of the middle and lower class. Hard stop. As such, they should be paying higher taxes. The divide in wages between the worker class and those at the top should be regulated. No one is saying you can’t be rich; more power to you, but if you are rich, you can afford to help support our shared well being. Our government still needs to look out more for the people of the USA than it does for the companies of the USA. I love the environment, and it should always be a factor when it comes to anything that could impact it. Global warming is REAL; humans have a real impact on it, and we need to make sure we can all reduce that impact. Immigration into the USA is a privilege, and while it should be done legally, there are many reasons why many have not. Recent ICE enforcement over the past 1-2 years is evidence that we can do better to support those who want to be here, regardless of how they ended up here. Especially those who are law abiding citizens. Education is paramount, and everyone deserves a great education from preschool to college. It should be affordable and not become an insurmountable debt that someone must pay for decades. Again, those who make the most (and the companies making the most) should pay in the most. Everyone benefits from this, from the top down.

Investment in fuel should be reduced, and we should be investing in green and clean energy. Not the fake “clean,” but true ways to generate energy that do good for the environment. Look, any production or manufacturing will be dirty, but in many of these situations the ends justify the means. Government subsidies because someone “lost” money due to their own investment attempting to make money should be stopped. Sorry, farmers; make better investments. Abortion should be legal. I will always vote as if my daughter’s rights depend on it. Your god is not everyone’s god. Religion has no place in laws, government, schools, military, etc. People who get married and have children deserve whatever tax breaks they can get; your children are our future. But again, if you make more money, you also deserve to pay more taxes. Progressive taxes are good. Two adults should be able to marry whoever they want. Marriage is not a religious concept it is a decision between two adults. Keep your religion out of other people’s marriage. If you don’t want to get married, that is ok. Only you know what is best for you. LGBTQIA2S+: I haven’t been in your shoes, but I will do my best to understand, and I want to be your ally. I’ll give you grace, and you give me grace.

Companies are not people. Citizens United was one of the worst things to happen in the past 20 years. I believe in the 2nd Amendment, but that doesn’t mean there should be laws regarding gun registration and the type of guns that can be owned. Marijuana should be legalized throughout the US, regulated, and taxed just like alcohol. I’m sure I have a lot I could say, but I wanted to try to stay in line with the post from 18 years ago.
